Municipal employees in Sundsvall systematically use their company cars privately, reports Sundsvalls Tidning. 34 audited employees have driven to or from home 6,700 times in six months – a total of over 7,600 miles.

The car journeys took place between June and December last year.

In addition to driving to and from work, many have also driven to, for example, Systembolaget, shops and the gym. Some have kept the vehicles at home over the weekend, which is not allowed.

The purpose of the trips is not clear from the driving records. It is therefore unclear whether in some of the cases there were legitimate official matters, writes Sundsvalls Tidning.

According to CFO Örjan Folkesson, the drives are a holdover from the pandemic, when employees had to work at home and take the cars home.

– We will review this, what the routines are and how the regulations have been followed after the pandemic, Folkesson tells the newspaper.

According to Örjan Folkesson, it can be difficult to calculate how many of the trips were justified and how many broke the rules, as well as what it cost the taxpayers.

– No, I cannot answer that at the moment.
