Moviepilot restricts commenting under articles – and that’s the reason

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Dear Moviepilot Community,

As you have probably already noticed, we are currently working at full speed on Moviepilot modern, clearer and better close. Both for the people who see Moviepilot primarily as a huge film community in which they like to exchange ideas and for those who come to us mainly because of the articles.

One of the first steps towards the new Moviepilot is our updated start page, which not only looks much more modern and is clearer, but also offers more space for editorial content. Next steps include Changes in the community arealike an overhaul of user profiles.

That changes in the user profiles on Moviepilot

We have analyzed in detail what functions from the community on moviepilot.de are actively used. We noticed that you haven’t used the opportunity to write to other people’s guestbooks on their profiles for years.

That’s why we turn it on Guestbook feature on February 22, 2023. In addition, we are actively thinking about how we can improve the profiles and your user experience.

Of course, we also depend on your input for this: What do you absolutely not want to do without and what features do you want? Let us know by February 12th in this poll!

This is how the comment area on Moviepilot is changing now

One of the biggest changes that is already taking effect is right at the interface between the editorial and community areas: we will be the Switch off the comment function under News and reactivate only for articles specifically geared towards community participation. The comment function on film and series pages remains unchanged. We look forward to continuing exciting discussions and great film reviews from you.

Why are we doing this? In the last few months and years, there has been a toxic dynamic in the comment area under the editorial articles, which not only pushed us to our limits in terms of moderation, but also ensured that many users no longer felt comfortable with us.

Individual accounts deliberately shot at other users and parts of the Moviepilot editorial team under articles, shared conspiracy theories, started politically extreme discussions and entire population groups because of their Religion, origin, sexuality or gender identity offended. All points that clearly contradict our community guidelines and can therefore lead not only to the deletion of comments, but also to the deletion of entire profiles.

We want to continue discussing this on Moviepilot in the future

Moviepilot stands for passionate discussions about movies, series and the people in front of and behind the camera. If everyone always agreed, it would be boring. However, what we do not stand for is discrimination and hatred.

We believe that this step will steer the discussions on Moviepilot back into more constructive channels and focus on the movie and series pages to be able to, on which the majority of you exchange passionately, empathetically and for the love of art. Let’s stand up for it together and create a place where everyone feels accepted regardless of their religion, skin color, sexuality and identity.
