Even before Fallout thrilled both video game and series fans, another game adaptation with a post-apocalyptic setting came out: The Last of Us. Season 2 is currently in the works on behalf of the US pay channel HBO and will probably be somewhat similar to the game sequel The Last of Us 2 orientate.

A first image from the new episodes reaches us long before the start of the season from the Warner Bros. Discovery presentation at the Upfronts, which was held in New York today. You can see Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and her end-time replacement dad Joel (Pedro Pascal) – apparently in the relatively safe commune in Jackson.

Who else is starring in The Last of Us Season 2?

Also back in the cast are Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy and Rutina Wesley as his wife Maria. The most important addition to the cast in season 2 is that played by Kaitlyn Dever Abby who is a playable and very important character in The Last of Us 2.

Also on board are Isabela Merced as Ellie’s love interest Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen and Danny Ramirez as Manny.

Does season 2 stick to the video game The Last of Us 2? The first season stayed true to the rough outline of the video game template and, in addition to showrunner Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), even had game creator Neil Druckmann on the team. So you could assume that’s exactly how things would continue in Season 2. But Mazin recently explained on the Scriptnotes podcast (via THR): I’ve been watching things on the Internet a little, people are very clever. Whether the showrunner means that you won’t stick to the general outline of the game or whether he’s referring to much more detailed decisions remains to be seen 2025if the series continues on HBO and Sky Germany.
