Monstrous fantasy adventure starring Hugh Jackman whose sequel weve been

With Wolverine, Hugh Jackman has found a great role for him until the end of his career becomes. He has appeared in nine (!) X-Men films over the past two and a half decades. This July he even returns to the big screen as a grim mutant in a crossover with Deadpool.

However, Wolverine isn’t the only iconic role in Jackman’s oeuvre. In the 2000s he landed another well-known part: Van Helsing. In the film of the same name by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) he embodies it legendary vampire hunterwho has to deal with a whole series of horror monsters.

Tonight you can watch Van Helsing on TV.

Fantasy excess with Hugh Jackman: Van Helsing is almost the Avengers of the Universal monster films

The story of Van Helsing is loosely inspired by classic monster stories and of course Bram Stoker’s Dracula, where the character first appeared. In the film, Helsing is on the move on behalf of the Vatican to put shady characters in their place. Right at the beginning he talks to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

It doesn’t take long before we change the scene: from Paris we get to Rome before we head to the Shadows of Transylvania find again. An ancient and evil creature is wreaking havoc here. Luckily, Van Helsing receives support from the brave Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale) and the monk Cal (David Wenham).

Sommers transforms Van Helsing into an exciting mix of fantasy and horror elements. He mixes a pinch of action and adventure and takes us through the archive of the familiar universal monster stories – including a black and white sequencewhich unleashes the Frankenstein myth in gruesome images.

Van Helsing brings together in one film everything that the Dark Universe wanted to become based on the Marvel model. It’s too bad that Jackman’s Helsing couldn’t initiate its own film series. This explosive fantasy hit with its… innocent CGI lust and the devotion to gothic nightmare images definitely deserved a second chance.
