Golf: Alex Norén offered a birdie party – at the top of the PGA tour competition in Texas

He went the first 18 holes at seven under par – and put on a birdie fest. The 41-year-old from Stockholm recorded eight birdies, including four in a row on the closing holes.

A bogey was the only blemish on a brilliant round of 64 strokes on the par 71 course, which Norén began on the tenth hole.

Wallace took over

Norén went out early and shared the lead with Canadian Taylor Pendrith when he finished for the day.

England’s Matt Wallace took over the lead when he holed out for eight under par.

Norlander also plays

Vincent Norrman didn’t have the same fine result as Norén, but went around in 70 strokes, one stroke under par.

Other Swedes in the US tour competition are Henrik Norlander, Alexander Björk and David Nyfjäll.

The game is in progress and large parts of the starting field have not yet struck out.
