Capcom has given Monster Hunter Rise a new copy protection (DRM). As if that wasn’t annoying enough, there are now users who can no longer play the game. Because with the new copy protection, the game no longer runs on the Steam Deck. The players are correspondingly angry and disappointed.
What kind of copy protection is it? Capcom, the publisher of Monster Hunter: Rise, removed the game’s Denuvo copy protection in an update. Instead, the update added a new copy protection called Enigma DRM. This shouldn’t be quite as aggressive as Denuvo’s method. And it’s not the first game where Capcom does this and where there are supposed to be problems:
Some suspect that the license agreement between Capcom and Denuvo has expired and that Capcom now has to change provider. To the annoyance of the players, who find it anything but funny.
How did the players react? Unsurprisingly, the players found this anything but funny: the ratings on Steam plummeted and people complained about the publisher and the copy protection: This campaign was anything but user-oriented.
And some complain that they can no longer play the game on their Steam Deck.
Monster Hunter Rise was considered “Verified” and is now unplayable
What is the starting point? MHR was previously considered “Verified”: This means that the game works perfectly on the Steam Deck without any additional adjustments. And according to Steam and Reddit, a number of players probably used this.
The game ran very well on the Steam Deck and without any major problems. If you otherwise wanted to play MHR on the go or on your mobile device, you had to use the weaker switch version of MHR. This is probably why many players preferred the Steam version on the Steam Deck.
What’s the problem now? But the Enigma update has ruined exactly that: players are complaining on reddit and in the recent reviews on Steam that Monster Hunter Rise is no longer playable on the Steam Deck. And some declare that they have tried everything:
However, none of it was successful. Some are now hoping that either Capcom or Valve, the manufacturer of the Steam Deck, will soon release an update that will solve the problems.
