Microsoft is testing a widget for its Game Pass in Windows 11

A new widget dedicated to Game Pass has just been deployed in Preview in Windows 11 for members of the Insider program.

Microsoft has just released a new build of Windows 11 to Insiders in the developer channel. Stamped 25174, this new build introduces Microsoft’s first new widget for Windows 11. And this one is likely to particularly appeal to gamers.

Indeed, this new widget is entirely dedicated to Microsoft’s Game Pass. Microsoft presents this Preview of the widget as “a window to the vast library of Game Pass PC”. It will actually display the latest titles that have been added to the offer, as well as those that are about to be withdrawn. The widget, which should also highlight certain game categories, will take you directly to the Xbox app to start installing suggested titles, access reviews, and more.

However, the widget could evolve. Microsoft explains that it is working hard to, for example, allow you to connect to your Xbox profile or to quickly launch a game you have recently played, directly from this famous widget.

Insider members who have installed this build available in the developer channel, can activate the Game Pass widget by going to the dashboard dedicated to Windows 11 widget settings.

New in File Explorer

Beyond the arrival of a new widget, Microsoft is taking advantage of this build to introduce new behavior within the file explorer. Now when you click on a directory with the mouse wheel from the Navigation Pane, it will automatically open in a new File Explorer tab. Note that the feature may not be available to all Insiders just yet, as Microsoft apparently hasn’t finished rolling out tabs in File Explorer to Developer Channel Insiders yet.
