Microsoft concludes its acquisition of Activision

Microsoft in the crosshairs of the European antitrust for Teams

(Finance) – Microsoft has concluded the largest acquisition of the video game giant in over 20 years Activision, when AOL bought Time Warner. worth 69 billion dollars.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) of the United Kingdom, or the country’s antitrust authority, had given the green light to the$69 billion acquisition by Microsoft from gaming company Activision Blizzard, removing the last major obstacle to completing the deal.

In August 2023, Microsoft made a concession that will see Ubisoft, rather than Microsoft, purchase Activision’s cloud gaming rights. This new deal will put cloud streaming rights (outside the EEA) for all Activision PC and console content produced over the next 15 years in the hands of a strong, independent competitor with ambitious plans to offer new ways to access such contents.

As a result of this concession, the CMA agreed to review the deal and launched a new investigation in August. The investigation concluded today with the CMA clearing this narrower transaction.
