In Mersin, where all kinds of vegetables and fruits are grown, from time to time, besides tropical fruits, products that are in danger of extinction are brought together with the soil. This year, 28 producers planted salep, which is one of these products and the fine for picking those grown in natural environments is 109 thousand 503 TL. The salep harvest has begun.
Salep, also known as wild orchid, is used in ice cream and dessert making, as well as being among the traditional drinks in Anatolian culture with its flavor, and it is known to be used in the medical field.

It is a plant that grows in the winter and we harvest it in the spring. Turkey and the world have a great need for salep powder obtained from the salep plant. If there is no salep, there will be no ice cream,” he said.
