Major Wallaceburg intersection closing for infrastructure work

Motorists will have to take detour around a major Wallaceburg intersection starting Tuesday.

McNaughton and Dufferin Avenue will be closed from 7 am Tuesday until 7 pm Sept. 15 to replace a water main and traffic signals, Chatham-Kent infrastructure and engineering services said in a release.

The work will detour Highway 40 traffic onto Base Line, Old Glass Road, Mason Street and Arnold Street, the release said. Two lanes of Dufferin Avenue will remain open from Walnut Drive to the closed intersection.

“Chatham-Kent is committed to working with Birnam Excavating to maintain a safe and orderly worksite,” said the release. “All efforts will be made to reduce the impact on the surrounding areas and businesses.”

Access to all Dufferin Avenue properties and businesses will be maintained at all times, the release added.

Road work on Dufferin, from McNaughton to Walnut, is expected to be finished this year, with restoration to be completed in the spring.
