Major cuts to be expected at Sollefteå hospital

On April 12, a consultant’s report from Ernst & Young was presented about closing several operations at Sollefteå Hospital. On Monday, a press conference was held where the political majority in the Västernorrland region said that they are proceeding with an in-depth investigation of the proposal.

– The care for our sickest elderly is a priority and we agree that a change must be made, said Elina Backlund Arab (S), chairman of the health and medical care board at the press conference.

The consultants’ proposal is to concentrate specialist care in the county to Örnsköldsvik’s and Sundsvall’s hospitals, and that Sollefteå should mainly provide geriatric care for elderly patients with multiple illnesses in the catchment area.

Challenges that were mentioned during the press conference are the need for skills supply and the financial situation.

In June, the regional politicians will make a decision on the matter.
