Lukashenko on nuclear weapons: Would not hesitate

Belarus dictator Aleksandr Lukashenko warns: In case of any kind of attack against the country, he will resort to nuclear weapons.

Russia decided in the spring, with allies and firmly held Belarus in good memory, to place nuclear weapons on Belarusian soil. In the Kremlin, it has been established that it is Russia that will control the nuclear weapons, but Aleksandr Lukashenko’s statements contradict this.

– God forbid that I would have to make a decision about using those weapons today, but there would be no doubt if we were facing an attack, Lukashenko said, according to Belarus state-run media.

Russia’s plan is said to be for the nuclear weapons to be in place at the beginning of July.

Belarus opposition leader Svetlana Tichanovskaya has described the nuclear deployment as confirmation that Belarus and its regime will be at the mercy of Russia for a long time to come.
