Large release of palm oil
At least 600 liters of palm oil have leaked at Gotska Sandön Photo: Coast Guard
A large spill of palm oil has occurred north of Gotska Sandön, reports the Coast Guard.
During Tuesday, the Coast Guard’s aircraft discovered a spill that covered an area of ten square kilometers.
– We have secured evidence and we have a clear source, says Jonatan Örn, preliminary investigation leader at the Coast Guard.
The release of palm oil must have occurred in connection with tank cleaning.
– We suspect that the method that has been used during the tank cleaning did not follow the current regulations and that this has led to a larger amount being released. We estimate that at least 600 liters of palm oil reached the sea, which exceeds the permitted limit, says Jonatan Örn.
According to the Coast Guard, this type of oil is difficult, and often impossible, to combat.
The suspect vessel has a port of destination in Finland.

Two men are sentenced for the rape of a 13-year-old
Two men sentenced to life imprisonment for rape of 13-year-old girl in October 2022, reports Today’s news.
It was in October last year that the girl was lured from her home in Värmland to Borås – where she was found five days later. One of the men, a 23-year-old, got in touch with the girl through a chat forum called Omegle.
The man has previously been convicted of several rapes against children. For the crime against the girl, he is now also sentenced to prison for 4 years and 9 months.
The other man, who is 25 years old, is sentenced to prison for 3 years and 4 months and deportation for life.
The Court of Appeal submits an opinion: Know what a snippa is
The Court of Appeal for Western Sweden knows very well what a snipe is.
This appears in an opinion from the Court of Appeal lawyer Åke Thimfors to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, reports P4 Gothenburg.
He, together with three male colleagues, previously acquitted the rapist convicted in the district court in the attention-grabbing so-called snippa case.
The reason was then that they started discussing what the word snippa means. They also concluded that the then-convicted rapist was not guilty of raping children.
The investigation into Lundintoppers is closed
The former leaders of Lundin Petroleum, chairman of the board Ian Lundin and CEO Alex Schneiter, who are suspected of aiding and abetting gross violations of international law in Sudan, are no longer suspected of gross abuse in court, reports TT.
The prosecutor has decided to close the investigation after it cannot be proven that the “suspects were guilty of a crime”.

Politicians call for a boycott of Absolut vodka

The investigation into the escape of the chimpanzees is complete
The investigation into the escape of the chimpanzees in Furuviksparken is complete, announces the county administration in Gävleborg.
The county board’s assessment is that Furuviksparken has fulfilled its responsibility as an animal keeper during and in connection with the incident.
The county board also states that the park has implemented changes in the house where the chimpanzees live and also changed its work routines in a way that is deemed to be sufficient.
At the same time, it also appears that Furuviksparken euthanized the chimpanzees using a method that is not legal.
“Today, primates are missing from the regulations’ list of animal species that may be killed with firearms at a distance. The park should therefore have applied for a dispensation from the Swedish Agricultural Agency when they assessed that the need arose,” the county administrative board writes.
Murder trial is repeated after a while
The district court of Hälsingland has now decided that a trial regarding a murder in Söderhamn in 2022 must be retaken. The reason is that three lawyers who worked on the trial are tough.
All detainees will remain in custody.
It was in February last year that a 23-year-old man was shot to death. Nine people were charged, three of them for the murder in Söderhamn, others for inciting the murder and still others for serious drug offences, weapons offenses and attempted murder.
The information about suspected fraud among the lawyers came to light after a disclosure published in Aftonbladet last week.
One in ten Americans has had a family member shot to death
A new study shows that approximately one in ten Americans has a family member shot dead, reports TT.
Every fifth person has at some point been threatened with a weapon and every sixth person has witnessed an injury from a shooting.
The study comes from The Kaiser Family Foundation. Half of the gun-related deaths are said to be suicides, according to the report.
The king and crown princess depart from tradition – attend the coronation

Thousands evacuated after fire
Over 2,000 people living in the state of Indiana in the United States must be evacuated after a massive fire broke out at a recycling facility, reports ABC News.
