In a written statement made by the Court of Justice, the judiciary of the United Nations (UN), it was stated that Ukraine filed a lawsuit against Russia for violating the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide.
In the statement, which noted that Ukraine requested the Court to order an “injunction” in order to prevent irreparable damages and to prevent violations of rights, Ukraine opposes Russia’s allegations that “genocide was committed in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions”, and Russia’s decision to support Ukraine’s government. or that there is no right to intervene.
In the statement, which included the allegations that Russia killed Ukrainians with the intent of genocide, it was shared that Ukraine accuses Russia of planning genocide.
The Court is expected to announce the date of the hearing regarding the emergency measures in a short time.
THE DONBAS CRISIS AND RUSSIA’S GENOCIDE CLAIMS
In Ukraine, separatists declared so-called governments in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, where the population of Russian ethnic origin is densely populated.
Russia recognized the separatist governments in Donbas and launched a military operation on Ukrainian territory on February 24.
