Jonna Sundling took home the SM gold in cross-country skiing in the 20 kilometer mass start, freestyle, in Boden. The 29-year-old fixed his fourth SM title by sprinting down Lynn Svahn in the fight for the gold. The bronze went to Maja Dahlqvist.

The starting field held international top class, even though it was about SM competitions. Seven national team skaters – Sundling, Svahn, Dahlqvist, Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson, Moa Ilar and Emma Ribom – broke away from the rest of the field early on.

The article continues below.

All have taken individual World Cup victories during their careers, and all but Dahlqvist have done so this season. Somewhat unexpectedly, Frida Karlsson was the first to drop out of the seven, with a couple of kilometers to go.

In the last uphill, the sprint guns Svahn and Sundling then stuck, and the others could not respond.
