Johanna Hagström, 24, made it all the way to the semi-finals of the World Ski Championships in Planica, Slovenia. But when she was interviewed after the sprint, the focus was somewhere else entirely.
– I went to the toilet 15 minutes before the start and realize that I have had my period. I panicked so I didn’t have time to fix it, she said to SVT.
Now she is praised on social media for openly talking about menstruation as an elite sportswoman, something that many believe is not talked about enough.
– It’s been incredibly cool but a little strange that I’ve gotten these reactions because it’s a natural thing, says Johanna Hagström to Efter fem.
