Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored exceptional power points in Carolina’s crushing victory – NHL reporter compares Jesse Puljujärvi’s situation to Eeli Tolvase’s

Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored exceptional power points in Carolinas crushing victory

Teuvo Teräväinen dedicated his hat trick to his recently deceased grandfather. Almost six years have passed since the attacker’s last three-goal night.

Finnish forwards in ice hockey’s NHL Teuvo Teräväinen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi were in a wild blow when the Carolina Hurricanes they represented beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6–0.

In the match, Kotkaniemi scored 1+4 power points. He got an assist on all of Teräväinen’s hits, and in addition, Kotkaniemi was also involved in the Hurricanes’ 4–0 hit. In addition, he scored Carolina’s sixth goal late in the match.

Kotkaniemi’s previous record for points in one match was 1+2, so the five-point night can be considered surprising. He is just four points away from his single-season scoring record of 34 in his rookie season.

Kotkaniemi is the second Finn to score five power points in one game this season. Representing Florida Alexander Barkov forged powers 3+2 in December.

Still, neither of them reached the rare performance of more than five points. The last time a Finn scored six power points in one match was in 2007, when Olli Jokinen scored two goals and assisted on four hits. The trick has only been successful before Jari Kurri – five times.

The NHL’s biggest single-game point total this season belongs to Buffalo by Tage Thompson 5+1 against Columbus on December 7th.

In Carolina’s game, Teräväinen scored a hat trick again, and increased his goal tally this season from seven to ten. At the same time, Teräväinen crossed the 400-point mark in the NHL regular season.

On the 3rd of March Roope Hintz hit his second hat trick of the season and went up Sebastian Ahon and Mikko Rantanen alongside, who have also twice scored three goals in one match this season.

Almost six years had passed since Teräväinen’s previous hat trick, when he last managed to score three goals in November 2017.

– It’s always special to score three goals. I lost my grandfather a week ago, so this goes to him, Teräväinen said On the NHL website (you will switch to another service).

Carolina has won its last two games with a goal difference of 12–1, which is not necessarily the best news for the Hurricanes Jesse to Puljujärvi. Piloting the Carolina Rod Brind’Amour hardly wants to shake up his players who are in good shape.

‘s NHL reporter Tommi Seppälä says that Puljujärvi has to be sharp as soon as the striker gets a chance in Carolina’s lineup. Redeeming playing minutes is not a common thing in a good team.

– When the opportunity comes, Puljujärvi has to come through the ends and show that he belongs to the team. A big opportunity, but it will take a lot of work for him to steal a spot for himself.
