It’s been on the rise lately! Warnings followed one after another: Symptoms appear in 1 to 3 hours… “Can result in death”

Its been on the rise lately Warnings followed one after

Assoc. Dr. Murat Doğan warned against mushroom poisoning, which has increased recently.

Doğan, in his written statement, stated that the rains seen in the spring months provide a suitable natural environment for the development of mushrooms, but the unconscious consumption of mushrooms grown in nature can lead to poisoning that can result in death.

Pointing out that mushroom-related poisoning often occurs as a result of the consumption of mushrooms that are unconsciously collected in rural areas, gardens and open areas with the onset of precipitation in the spring and autumn months, Doğan emphasized that the types of mushrooms consumed are not known in most cases.

“CAN CAUSE FATAL POISONING”

Stating that mostly mild findings are seen in mushroom poisonings, Doğan continued as follows:

“Mushrooms that cause symptoms 6 hours after consumption can cause severe and potentially fatal poisoning. Ingestion of these mushrooms results in symptoms within 1 to 3 hours and includes nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps, as well as diarrhea. In severe poisonings, liver damage, kidney failure Neurological symptoms such as dizziness, tremors, seizures and coma may develop with the disease. As a result, patients may face life-threatening multi-organ failure that requires intensive care follow-up, and may even result in death.”

“BOILING OR COOKING DOES NOT PREVENT POISONING”

Underlining that the rumors among the public should not be trusted, Doğan said, “It can be eaten if it has been seen to be consumed by animals before. Approaches such as ‘The mushroom that has been in our garden for a long time, we have been collecting the same mushroom for years’ is not correct. Because the most common mushroom poisoning cases we encounter are these patients. “The other belief is that the poison of the mushrooms is removed by cooking. Most types of mushrooms are heat-resistant. Therefore, boiling or cooking mushrooms does not prevent poisoning. After eating mushrooms, it is absolutely necessary to go to the hospital when there are conditions such as stomachache, diarrhea, dizziness, sleepiness.” used the phrases.

MINISTER KOCA WAS WARNED

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, in a post on his social media account the previous day, reminded that a young girl poisoned by mushrooms in Karaman was brought back to life after a liver transplant at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital.

Stating that the mother and father of the young girl were also hospitalized and treated, Koca noted the following:

“In mushroom poisoning, 3 out of every 100 patients die. Some of the poisonings cause serious conditions that can lead to kidney and liver failure. There are more than 6 thousand mushroom species around the world, and at least 100 of them are known to be poisonous varieties that endanger life. “It is necessary to avoid the consumption of mushrooms found in nature and to prefer cultivated mushrooms. I wish our patients well and congratulate our teams who successfully performed the liver transplantation and treatments.” (AA)
