Over a year after The Walking Dead ended, the spin-off The Ones Who Live brought the story of Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) to a conclusion. Without concrete season 2 plans, it could be the last appearance of the two characters for the time being. And after the finale aired, it’s clear: we didn’t get to see everything from the end of their series together.

Be careful, follow it spoiler!

In contrast to the alternative ending of the original series, the removed The Ones Who Live ending does not make any huge jumps in time. Instead, we would have seen more of the Grimes family’s touching reunion and a surprise for comic fans. New Pictures and a video now give us a look at the cut scene.

Alternative The Ones Who Live ending would have shown even more of the big The Walking Dead reunion

It’s an incredibly precious moment for The Walking Dead fans. At the end of The Ones Who Live, Rick Grimes is able to embrace his daughter Judith (Cailey Fleming) again, more than 8 years after his disappearance, and meets his son RJ (Antony Azor) for the first time. This chapter of the Grimes saga ends with the image of a hug from the whole family. But there was a little more filming.

Some behind-the-scenes images for episode 6 officially released by AMC reveal that yet further scenes as part of the big reunion of the Grimes family were rotated. Because in these pictures Rick, Michonne, Judith and RJ are wearing different clothes.

It is currently unknown whether more material was filmed apart from the picnic scene and in what context it would have been seen. It is possible that the scene was part of a montage that would have illuminated Rick Grimes’s regained family happiness even more extensively.

The deleted scene hides a comic surprise for The Walking Dead fans

The alternative and longer version of The Ones Who Live ending would not only have shown us more of Rick and his children. The scene would also have a special one Surprise for fans of The Walking Dead comics includes, as another behind the scenes image reveals.

After leaving his prosthetic hand behind on the destroyed CRM base, Rick Grimes would have ended up with a new model modeled after a special moment from the comics.

In the original, Rick loses his right hand quite early in the story. In issue 127 he finally receives a new prosthesis, which was made by Hilltop blacksmith Earl. We would now have seen this for the first time in the series world of The Walking Dead.

Where can I stream The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live?

You can now stream all six episodes of the miniseries The Ones Who Lives in full with a MagentaTV subscription. The Walking Dead spin-off can only be seen there exclusively for the time being.

If you want to see the reunion with Rick and Michonne away from MagentaTV, you’ll have to be patient. The previous spin-offs Dead City and Daryl Dixon were also made available for purchase on Amazon Prime Video a few months after their launch on MagentaTV.
