After the involvement of United Arab Emirates in the war Sudan alongside the Rapid Support Forces (FSR) led by General Mohamad Hamdane Daglo, theIran would he be involved in this war? If we believe the American news agency Bloombergthat would be the case.

According to the American agency citing three anonymous Western sources, Iranian Mohajer 6 drones were delivered to the Sudanese army. Proof of this, reports the agency, are satellite images captured on January 9 of a military base north of Khartoum and which reveal one of these devices. Photos widely shared on social media more than two weeks ago also show the remains of a Mohajer 6 drone shot down by the RSF.

Middle Eastern arms experts point out that there is nothing new in this story and that Sudan has had six Iranian Mohajer 6 drones since 2016. In July 2023, one of these drones was deployed for first time over Khartoum. Another was shot dead this month by the RSF. Directed by laser, the strikes of these drones hit their target with precision. Each drone has the capacity to carry four missiles with a total of 40 kg.

Diplomacy

Between Sudan and Iran, diplomatic relations have been interrupted since 2016. But last July, a meeting took place between the foreign ministers of the two countries who expressed their wish to reactivate these relations. Tehran hopes in any case to resume cooperation with Khartoum, its former ally, which would allow it to expand its zone of influence towards this strategic country with a good position on the Red Sea.

According to the United States, Tehran has equipped Hezbollah in Iraq and Lebanon with these drones as well as the Houthis in Yemen, but also the Ethiopian army, Russia and Venezuela.
