Review: Police employees leak to gangs

The criminals have several methods to gain access to secret information. Initiating sexual relations with police employees is recurring.

Since 2018, 514 reports of suspected leaks have been made, according to DN’s mapping of cases in the police personnel responsibility board. They include both cases that have not been prosecuted and cases that have led to convictions.

At least 30 police employees have been singled out as security risks for various reasons and forced to quit or resign themselves. In 14 cases there is strong evidence, in several cases even verdicts, which show that police employees have disclosed secret information to organized crime.

Leaks coincide in time with at least four revenge attacks, where people have been injured or killed.

– It is dangerous for democracy. People risk losing faith in society, says Martin Valfridsson, head of department for Special Investigations at the police, to DN.
