Iran has executed a total of four demonstrators who participated in the protests that began in September.

Iran has executed two protesters on Saturday.

Mohammad Mahdi Karami and Seyyed Mohammad Hosseinitwo Ruhollah Ajamian the main culprit of the crime that led to the martyrdom, was hanged this morning, Mizan Online, a news website that follows Iran’s judiciary, wrote.

The executed men were accused of killing Ajamian on 3 November. Ajamian was a member of the Basji paramilitary security forces, which work for Iran’s extremist regime.

Since September, Iran has seen exceptionally large-scale anti-regime protests around the country.

The protests started when a 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini died at the hands of Iran’s moral police. Amini had been arrested for violating religious dress codes.

Iranian security forces have suppressed the protests with a heavy hand. According to human rights organizations, security forces have killed hundreds and arrested thousands of protesters.

According to AFP, a total of 14 of those arrested have been sentenced to death, of which four have been executed. The first two executions took place in December.

The executions have received widespread international criticism. Iran’s judiciary is not independent, and trials have been seen as political.

The accused have not been allowed to see the evidence presented against them and they have not been allowed to choose their own lawyers.

The human rights organization Amnesty has stated that the trials “have nothing to do with a meaningful legal process”.
