HV71 player Sanni Hakala to hospital after accident in SDHL

HV71 player Sanni Hakala had to be taken to hospital after a serious accident in the match against Djurgården.
She took a nasty hit when she drove into the post headfirst.
She remains in hospital and will be there overnight and examined by doctors, says the club’s press officer Johan Freijd to TV4 Nyheterna.

In the match between HV71 and Djurgården in the SDHL, the player Sanni Hakala went on a nasty hit. She had to be taken to hospital after what the club described as a serious accident.

After a longer break in the match, HV71 announced that the match will not be played.

“In tonight’s SDHL match between HV71 and Djurgården, forward Sanni Hakala was seriously injured during a match situation. Sanni has been taken by ambulance to hospital and the teams have agreed not to resume the match tonight, but to continue playing at a later date. We are thinking of you Sanni!” writes the club in a statement.

Remained in the hospital overnight

The accident happened when Sanni Hakala was heading towards the opponents’ goal at the start of the match. The player went headfirst into the post and was left lying on the ice.

During the evening, Johan Freijd, press officer at HV71, tells TV4 Nyheterna that Sanni Hakala is conscious.

– She is still in hospital and will be there overnight and will be examined by doctors, he says.

The extent of the damage is still unclear.

– We cannot say anything about it until we have received the doctors’ report, he says.
