And so everyone commemorates in their own way. Of the hundreds of people on Domplein, many have a personal reason. Florien (21), for example, stands for her Jewish great-grandfather, who was in the resistance. She thinks it is important to keep telling what he did. Leah (9), who talked about it “with dad”, is also at the front of the square. “Great-grandmother was hidden during the war,” she says. “She made it, but a lot of other people didn’t.”
