The beautiful days are here, and with them the desire to no longer be confined and to live outside again. However, to take full advantage of your garden, it is necessary to take into account the available surface. First step, make a plan to scale by integrating the existing (house, gate, gate, garagevegetation, aisle…). Once this step has been completed, you can position and size the various layouts and equipment you want (terrace, playground, pool…).

Equipment according to the surface of the garden

Developing your land depends on its surface. To be pleasant to live with, avoid filling it like an egg.

Land of less than 400 m2

Small gardens can include a children’s play area in addition to the terrace (swing, slide, etc.). To enjoy a feeling of depth and a beautiful view from the house, clear the central part of the lawn. For security reasons, the play area must be close enough to be supervised. If you need a garden shed to store bicycles, mowers, etc., place it in a discreet corner away from a hedge.

From 500m2

You can also create a vegetable garden, take advantage of an ornamental pond or a small swimming pool… To go from one point to another, an alley partially hidden by vegetation will reinforce the impression of depth. From 800m2, leave room for imagination, without however forgetting that nothing should “break” the view from the house.

Install a terrace in the garden

With a minimum area of 15 m2the terrace is often the natural extension of the living room. To prevent the terrace from turning into a furnace, equip it with sun protection (offset parasol, store awning, pergola, shade sail…). If it is exposed to windshelter it from the currents ofair using a plant hedge for example. In town, there can be many opposites. You can protect yourself from prying eyes with the help of pergolas and gazebos with curtains.

If the terrace cannot be attached to the house, make sure that it is still not too far away in order to limit trips back and forth with the kitchen. Otherwise, you can equip it with a summer kitchen. In this case, plan a surface of at least 25 m2.

Swimming pool, find the ideal location

Taking a dip is always pleasant, but first it is necessary to study the area where the pool will be installed. Above ground or buried, position the pool in the sunniest area of the garden, sheltered from the wind and far from leafy plants lapsed. If you opt for a masonry pool, absolutely avoid proximity to trees that the roots could damage. Partially shade the pool deck.

A swimming pool buried in the extension of the terrace highlights the whole. On the other hand, the pool can become a source of nuisance for those who wish to enjoy the terrace.

Enjoy the garden even at night

Developing your land is an opportunity to plan a lighting effective, without however abusing it so as not to disturb the nocturnal wildlife :

  • mark out the aisles to make them safe and indicate the differences in level;
  • define the terrace with recessed spotlights;
  • illuminate the terrace with pendant lights;
  • light up trees and flowerbeds.
