How an old, worn-out piano, birds and a falling branch led to award-winning composer Michiel Borstlap’s new EP

How an old worn out piano birds and a falling branch

LEERSUM – A worn old piano and nature on an estate in Leersum: the two main ingredients from which Michiel Borstlap’s new EP emerged: Pace, which means peace. The internationally acclaimed pianist and composer settled down at the Parc Broekhuizen estate last winter. There, behind an old piano that he had placed among the trees at the edge of the pond, the melodies came into being: “It was winter, it was cold and it was wet. But it was fantastic, having a house like that on the background, in nature. Then I would find melodies and run to the carriage house and immediately record.”
