“Heels in the roof” of Söderköping’s traders – despite Christmas in recession

According to Svensk Handel’s forecast, this year’s Christmas shopping is expected to have a turnover of SEK 21.5 billion. This corresponds to a decrease of 500 million compared to last year.

Good in Söderköping

This year, the economy is under pressure in many areas and, among other things, the high interest rate pressure is being felt by too many households. But when SVT Nyheter Öst talks to traders in Söderköping, it turns out that the Christmas trade there did well this year as well.

– It just increases, increases and increases every month, says store owner Annika Starkås about the sale of women’s clothing.

People both from Stockholm and Linköping, Norrköping, come here and do Christmas shopping for what we made ourselves, says goldsmith and shop owner Gabriella Wallman.

In the clip, more traders in Söderköping answer how they see this year’s Christmas trade.
