This week, an infant died in the United States after an attack by a so-called “wolf hybrid”, writes CNN. These hybrids are increasing in popularity and number even in Sweden – despite the ban on breeding crossbreeds.

Police, fire department and local animal welfare inspectors received an alarm call to a family in Alabama, USA, on Thursday evening. A three-month-old infant was reportedly bitten by the family’s wolf hybrid and later died of its injuries, it reports CNN.
The animal was euthanized at the scene and then taken to the Alabama State Diagnostics Laboratory.
Even in Sweden, it has become increasingly popular to own wolf hybrids and the number of animals has increased in recent years. According to Swedish Radio Caliberwho examined wolf hybrids in Sweden, people must have imported dogs into the country that carried up to 95 percent wolf genes.
Increased number of wolf hybrids in Sweden
In Sweden it is forbidden to breed and keep crosses between wolves and dogs – but despite that, the number in the country is increasing. However, the ban does not cover the import of wolf hybrids into Sweden.
– Getting a wolf into a dog is nothing that is good in any way. It will only be a more rescuing and shy dog and that is the opposite of what we want, dog trainer Fredrik Steen has previously said in News morning.
At the end of October at the latest, a wolf hybrid of The County Administrative Board in Norrbotten. The same month reported UNT about residents outside Uppsala who expressed fear and concern about a neighbor with two wolf hybrids who often escape from their enclosures.
“It’s worrying”
Fredrik Steen is surprised that the popularity of wolf dogs has increased and believes that there is also a romanticization of owning a dog with wolf DNA. He further explains that dogs prefer to cooperate with humans than with their relatives, but that wolves are the opposite.

– A dog is very skilled at hunting, but we can control that. A wolf has a black belt in hunting and killing – that’s what they survive on. We don’t want that among us, do we? It is worrying.
