“Hard to even look at him”: Rebel Moon maker was terrified of his star Ed Skrein during the sci-fi shoot

Acting is an extreme profession. At least that applies to the stars who immersed themselves so deeply in their roles that they found it difficult to shake them off afterwards. Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) or Austin Butler (Elvis) are well-known examples.

They now include Ed Skrein, who can be seen in Netflix’s sci-fi blockbuster Rebel Moon – Part 1: Child of Fire: His bitterly evil role, Admiral Noble, haunted him for longer than he would have liked. And caused fear during filming.

As Rebel Moon writer Kurt Johnstad revealed in an interview with Moviepilot, Skrein was so attached to his role during filming that it frightened him:

It was hard to even look at Ed Skrein on set. He was so deep into his character. When he took them off and casually lined up for lunch, it was hard to go and talk to him. […] Recently I heard him say, ‘It took me a year to free myself from the character.’ […] Otherwise he is a very nice, relaxed and happy guy who hugs you. But you don’t want to be hugged by Noble.

Johnstad was very impressed by Skrein’s meticulous approach. Nevertheless, it is to be hoped that the star has now recovered from Noble. The character serves as the major antagonist in Rebel Moon: He and His Soldiers occupy by force
the village of Kora (Sofia Boutella). The young veteran then looks for warriors for a rebellion on the neighboring planet.
