Gas bills: increases of up to 177 euros for those who have not switched to the free market

Gas bill drops again in July

(Finance) – The arrival of 2024 marked the end of the protection service for the gas supply and to non-vulnerable domestic customers cwho have not switched to the free market have been assigned a new tariff with possible increases that would reach up to 177 euros per year.

This is what emerges from an elaboration of Facile.it. “The economic conditions of the new tariff, called ‘PLACET offer in derogation’, are defined by the Authority, with the exception of the item covering marketing costswhich instead is freely established by each supplier”explain the experts at Facile.it.

“By analyzing the values applied by the sales companies, it emerged that in some cases a surcharge of up to 177 euros per year will be applied compared to the rates in force in the protected market. This is a fixed amount, independent of consumption and therefore it could have a significant impact on bills, especially for those who consume little energy. The advice is therefore to carefully evaluate your offer and compare it with those available on the free market, remembering that it is possible to make the change at any time.».

Unfortunately, this won’t be the only increase in 2024 on the energy front; with the start of the new year, VAT on gas bills has returned to the ordinary rate (no longer 5%, but 10% for consumption up to 480 cubic meters and 22% for higher consumption) and the system charges are also returned to weigh entirely on the final expense. These increases will affect all customers, regardless of the offer subscribed to.

To help those who have not yet made the transition to the free gas market, but also those who have an electricity supply in the protected service, a regime that will end in July 2024, Facile.it has drawn up a short handbook with advice on how to approach the choice, including comparing offers, but also keeping an eye on consumption and opting for a single electricity and gas supplier.
