The tests for the technological baccalaureate relate to a commentary or a contraction of a text followed by a test. The test lasts 4 hours and is marked out of 20 points, or 10 points + 10 points. First year students in the technological stream had the choice between:

  • “The novel and the narrative from the Middle Ages to the 21st century” for the text commentary, based on an extract from Germinal, by Émile Zola
  • “The literature of ideas from the 16th to the 18th century” for the text contraction (10 points) and the essay (10 points), with three extracts to choose from, one from Gargantua, from Rabelais, the second from Characters , by La Bruyère, and the third of the Declaration of the Rights of Woman and Citizen, by Olympe de Gouges.

First year students will then have to pass an oral test. Good news this year:in order to take into account the effects of the health situation on the schooling of pupils, the number of texts to be presented orally (has been) reduced to 16 in the general track and to 9 in the technological track“. Indeed, this test is part of one of the major adjustments to the baccalaureate announced by the Ministry of National Education for the 2022 session.

As it concerns the date of the French oralit depends on each academy, and generally takes place after the written French tests. Are also on the program “The Red and Black”, “The False Confidences”, “Just the end of the world”, “Journey to the center of the Earth”, “Childhood”, “The Island of slaves” but also “The Sick imaginary”. The students will work on “the literature of ideas from the 16th century to the 18th century”, “Poetry from the 19th century to the 21st century”, “The novel and the narrative from the Middle Ages to the 21st century” and “The theater from the 17th century to the 21st century”. Nevertheless, the works on the program written by women are still rare because there are only “The Declaration of the Rights of Women and Citizens” by Olympe de Gouges, “The Princess of Cleves” by Madame de Lafayette and “Mémoires of Hadrian” by Marguerite Yourcenar. Next year, the women whose works will be studied will be two, namely Olympe de Gouges and Colette. The presence of women in the French baccalaureate program is therefore very much lower than that of men, even if a step has been taken in recent years. “Those who make the examination programs now ensure that there are women. But obviously there is still progress to be made (…) there have been positive developments (but) we tend to always revolve around the same authors”, confided to Point Françoise Cahen, high school literature teacher in Alfortville (Val-de-Marne), who had launched in 2016 a petition entitled: “To give their place to women in the programs of literature of the bac L”.
