France is embarking on a historically extensive artificial intelligence surveillance of citizens – the rest of Europe is feared to follow soon

France is embarking on a historically extensive artificial intelligence surveillance

*During the fall, EU decision-makers will negotiate on the artificial intelligence regulation for the entire Union territory.

*The position of the European Parliament is that supervision should be based on e.g. risk analysis or a court decision, France now allows extensive supervision without them.

*The parliament’s negotiators will next discuss the artificial intelligence regulation with the Council of Ministers of the EU member states.

*If the parliament’s position wins, France may have to change the surveillance law it adopted for the Paris Olympics. However, it is considered unlikely.

*The final law will be approved by the Parliament and the Council of Ministers at the end of the year or the beginning of 2024.
