Four time Stanley Cup winner and former NHL goalie Mike Bossy

Bossy died after fighting lung cancer since October last year.

Bossy won four consecutive Stanley Cups in his career with the Islanders between 1980 and 1983. Bossy was known in his career as a wild goal gun, hitting 573 goals and a total of 1126 power points in 752 matches in his career. The striker missed less than 50 goals in just one season throughout his career.

Bossy’s exceptional scoring pace is underlined by the fact that of the puck players who have played more than 100 NHL matches, only Wayne Gretzky and With Mario Lemieux is a better point-per-game average. Bossy scored 1,497 points per game in his career, with Gretzky and Lemieux scoring 1,921 and 1,883, respectively.

He was elected to the NHL Players’ Honor Gallery in 1991.

After his career, Bossy worked as a TV commentator for Islanders matches, among other things, until October 2021, when cancer forced him to give up his role.

– The entire organization of Islanders is broken by the failure of Mike Bossy. He was an icon not only on Long Island, but on the entire puck world. Our organization wants to convey its deepest condolences to all those close to him and to all those who miss him, Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello commented in the club’s press release.

Bossy is already the second Islanders hero to die this year. Captain of the club’s successful years Clark Gillies died on January 21st.
