Forgotten sci fi thriller starring Keanu Reeves which he regretted shooting

Keanu Reeves has acted in many great films. Even in some that have been shredded by criticism. And then there are movies that he himself finds absolutely awful. Such as the sci-fi action Out of Control co-star Morgan Freeman, which can be seen on Disney+ *.

Disney+ sci-fi action: When Keanu Reeves wanted out, it was too late

The film by Andrew Davis (On the Run) revolves around the mechanic Eddie (Reeves), who accidentally develops a completely new energy source during a research project. But before he can really get excited, unscrupulous CIA agents want to grab the results and are trying to kill him and the scientists.

Out of Control flopped at the box office (via The Numbers) and became largely panned by criticism (via Metacritic), who attested to the film’s lack of inventiveness. Reeves wasn’t thrilled either. However, his dislike did not begin with the theatrical release.

As he revealed to United Press International, the film looked completely different before the shoot.

In the original script, I was married. I had a child and I was doing research and knew nothing about the consequences of my work. Then someone died and I felt guilty, but I wasn’t allowed to stop and I was being chased. Then the script changed and suddenly I was this 24-year-old mechanic. I went to Andrew Davis and said: ‘Where’s the movie I signed up for?’ […] I had no choice but to continue.

It’s not the only time filming doesn’t go according to the star’s introduction. In a 2000 thriller, Keanu Reeves was even forced to work through a forged signature. Hopefully he is now safe from such tricks.
