Towards more responsible delivery?

With the scarcity of letters sent by the French population, La Poste must find new sources of income. The specialized site The informed reported that in 2021, mail did not even represent 20% of the group’s activity. By encouraging customers to be delivered to post offices rather than to a grocery store or optician, the company would increase the flows passing through Chronopost and Colissimo, its carrier services. But it is above all theecological optics highlighted by La Poste in the communication dedicated to this new system. While pure players like Shein or Temu reign over fast fashion and second-hand applications like Vinted have more than 40 million users, the number of home deliveries and returns continues to increase. So many journeys which lead to a considerable increase in the number of kilometers traveled daily by delivery drivers and therefore, an increase in CO emissions.2. It should also be noted that before arriving at their final destination, the packages are moved in bulk, by plane or by boat and that their transfers are thus shared. On the other hand, the last kilometers traveled between the warehouse and the buyer’s home address are more problematic, because they are carried out dozens of times per day to transport very few items at a time. Eliminating the home delivery step by receiving their package at La Poste would allow customers to considerably reduce their carbon footprint. Spread the information!
