You can play Palworld on Steam, Xbox and Game Pass. But what about multiplayer? MeinMMO explains what you need to know about multiplayer, servers and crossplay.

Would you like to play Palworld in multiplayer, but don’t know what you need to consider? MeinMMO explains what you should know before you jump into a game with friends. We’ll explain to you how to create a game, which platforms crossplay works with, and which advances you can adopt.

Multiplayer – PvE, PvP and progression

Does Palworld offer multiplayer? Yes, you can play Palworld in both single player and multiplayer. You can also play offline alone. You can find the best tips for Palworld on MeinMMO.

What is there for multiplayer? At the current time (as of January 22nd, 2024) you can use Palworld

  • Either play in co-op with up to 4 players.
  • Or play on a server with up to 32 people. Here you can choose between different regions, for example EU, NA or China.
  • There is currently no PvP content in Palworld, but it is planned.

    • You should keep this in mind when playing multiplayer:

  • All progress is saved at the host. If the host deletes the game, your character is gone.
  • Your character will be saved in the game’s host. If you rejoin a game, all of your character’s progress (level, inventory, technology, Paldex) will be retained.
  • You cannot transfer a character from single player to multiplayer. This should come later as an update.
  • Steam achievements work for the host, but so far only the achievements for the bosses work for the other players.
  • The host can change server settings as often as desired before each start. You can therefore make your game easier or more difficult later.

    • Palworld: server or co-op game?

    Select server: The official servers are hosted by Palworld, the performance is taken care of by the provider. However, you cannot freely choose which players you are there with. Depending on the region you choose, the ping of your connection can be very high.

    Host server: With the Steam version you can also host private servers. However, the developer warns that this is still an experimental function that is still unstable. This should not yet be possible with the Xbox and “Game Pass” versions.

    Host co-op game: You can host co-op games privately on your computer, but this requires fast hardware. To do this, you can invite players to your private game. Up to 4 players are possible at the same time.

    Server or co-op: If you prefer a stable connection and want to play with friends or people you know, then you should create a co-op game. Please note, however, that progress is only saved at the host.

    Palworld: Crossplay with PC, Xbox and Game Pass

    Is there cross-play? Yes, there is crossplay, but you have to take a few restrictions into account (as of January 22, 2024):

  • PC and Xbox: Players who play on the Xbox Series X|S can play together with players who started their game on the PC via Game Pass.
  • Steam and Xbox: Xbox and the Steam version of Palworld cannot currently play together. But this should be possible with an update in the future.
  • PS5 and PC: At the moment, Palworld is not available on the PS5. You can find more information about the PS5 version of Palworld on MeinMMO.
  • Steam and Game Pass: Crossplay between the Steam version and players with Game Pass is currently not possible. According to the developer, this should be possible later.

    • Hosting a multiplayer game – requirements and settings

    You have to pay attention to this: If you want to host a multiplayer game, the creator (host) must bear the entire performance of the game. If you don’t have enough computing power, you can also reduce certain server settings, such as how many Pals can spawn or how many resources are allowed to lie around.

    Create a new multiplayer game:

  • Select the “Start Game” menu item in the main menu.
  • In the next menu you select a world or press “create new world.”
  • Enter a world name and confirm it.
  • In the next menu, move the “Multiplayer” slider from “Off” to “On.” Multiplayer is now activated.
  • In the next step you can choose a preset difficulty level or make your own settings.
  • Now click on confirm and also confirm the following note.
  • In the next step you create your character.
  • Once you’re in the game, press Escape and you’ll see the main menu. Here you can see the invitation code at the top right.
  • Your friends press “Join multiplayer game (invitation code)” in the main menu and can enter your code there.
  • If everything goes well, your fellow players will then go into character creation.

    • Tip: You can convert a single player game into a co-op game at any time. To do this, go to the server settings and activate multiplayer.
