Even the creator has to comment on it

After a strong start, the new season of True Detective is causing controversy. However, the reason for this is not in an ice skating hall slowly thawing mountain of corpses, which is shown several times in the latest chapter of the dark crime series. No, the wall decoration of a suspect is much more disturbing.

Is a poster created by artificial intelligence the true crime in True Detective season 4?

In the scene in which Officer Navarro (Kali Reis) takes on the shady Chuck Mosley (Edward Fletcher), two posters can be seen on the wall in the background look extremely fake. The analysis of many fans: These must be fake posters that were created with the help of artificial intelligence.

You can see a snapshot of the posters below.

In fact, the posters look extremely unbelievable. However, Slashfilm points out that at least the poster on the left is based on an actual band, namely the South Korean girl group Ive. Apparently a photo from a concert has been slightly modified here. You can watch the original here.

Things get more critical with the poster on the right. The very soft-focus band whose Look based on Kiss is just called metal. There is talk of a tour, but there is no information about the tour dates and locations. The spelling error in the bottom right corner is particularly noticeable: instead of “2st” it should say “2nd”.

The clues point to an AI creation, what for Disappointment and irritation ensures. Last but not least, we have had a major double strike in Hollywood over the use of AI in films and series. Why does the otherwise very carefully designed new season of True Detective make this mistake?

True Detective maker Issa López reacts to the AI allegations without giving a clear answer

Starting with Issa López, the creative mind behind the new episodes, the metal poster became consciously chosen. She explains on Twitter that the poster is intended to give us a better feel for the remote town of Ennis and its residents:

The idea is that it’s up there [in Ennis, Alaska] It’s so sad that a child with AI made the posters for one Loser metal festival for boomers has made.
[Die Idee] was discussed. To the point of vomiting.

Whether the poster was actually created by an AI, does not address López. In another tweet, however, she reveals that a lot of thought apparently went into the strange creation:

The story behind this poster is so long that it is one own season from [True Detective] would require.

At least one could argue that the poster fits into the series in that it only shows the setting more sinister and lost lets work. Many things in Ennis give the impression that something strange is going on in this place. A poster that distorts reality certainly fits the bill. However, this would still not explain the necessity of using AI, if it did take place.
