Epic bans Fortnite’s face as Twitch streamers demand special treatment for 18-year-olds

Epic Games has suspended Twitch streamer Cody “Clix” Conrod (18) for two weeks. On Twitter, many Twitch streamers and fans are in favor of releasing him. The ban is too hard. “The Face of Fortnite” didn’t deserve that.

What was the ban for?

  • Clix was playing an online tournament and was locked in a duel with an enemy player
  • In a house-building match, both were firing at each other’s positions when the opponent jumped out of cover and dropped a powerful item. Clix changed position, jumped over to the opponent, grabbed this item and was able to win the tournament.
  • Epic then banned Clix from Fortnite for 2 weeks because of teaming: another player helped him win, which is against the rules.

Why does Clix want to be unbanned? We reported on the incident yesterday on MeinMMO. Clix says the opponent wasn’t a friend, but a 15-year-old “hater” whose life revolves around harming Clix and who specifically wanted to ban him.

The opponent is a stream sniper, observed the stream from Clix and took advantage of it.

Clix admits that he shouldn’t have taken the strong item, but now finds the two-week ban far too hard. With the hashtag #FreeClix, he wants people to turn to Epic Games or the bosses of the company and fight for the ban to be lifted.

This has happened since: At least the first half of the plan is working: Clix’s video has been viewed on Twitter around 560,000 times. Some people have also written to Epic Games or the boss Tim Sweeney.

But there is still a problem with the second half of the plan: The hashtag #FreeClix was used, but did not make it into the Twitter trends. There is still no sign of the ban being lifted.

“Epic Bans The Only Streamer Giving Them Crazy Clicks In Esports”

How are the reactions? The vast majority of people on Twitter side with Clix. Well-known Fortnite streamer Spyher PK says the ban is too high for something that “happens in the heat of the moment.” That is something completely different than when 2 players play together. He was streamed and then reacted incorrectly in the middle of the battle. A short ban is sufficient.

A creator for Ghostgaming says: The real problem is stream snipers. Epic would have to ban them permanently to set an example.

A friend of Clix’s, Ronaldo, asks how Epic can ban the one person who is giving them “sick esports viewership”.

Another says: “Well done Fortnite. You banned the only streamer who keeps your game relevant and then for it.”

    There are 3 arguments involved:

  • Epic should take action against stream snipers, not their victims
  • Epic should take into account that everything “happened in the heat of the moment” here
  • Epic must take into account how important Clix is for viewership and therefore give him preferential treatment
  • Are there also people who see it differently? Yes, a few voices say: Clix does not deserve special treatment. If he gets unbanned it’s unfair to all normal people. Epic should kindly unban them too.
