Emma trains with grandpa – goes to football and jazz clubs

It started with the love for the football team Bayern Munich. Both 20-year-old Emma Staaf Blom and her 79-year-old grandfather Hasse Lehto are true football enthusiasts. Hasse is also a seasoned traveller, having traveled by train many times before.

– I just wanted a Bayern Munich shirt. I told grandpa next time you go, can’t you fix me a sweater? And then an hour or so passed and then he called and said: “can’t we go to Munich and watch a match instead?” says Emma.

Emma wanted that very much, and so the travel planning started. It soon turned out that the difference in price between the various interrail options was small, and today the odd couple are out and about on the train…

Sing and get a free drink

Football in all its glory, if you’re going to hang around for a longer period, you have to fill your days with other things as well. And then Hasse, who is interested in music, got an idea.

– Since Emma likes to sing, I googled “open stages”, and then it turned out that in Hamburg it fit the time with such an occasion at a jazz club, where anyone could sing, says Hasse.

Said and done. Once in Hamburg it was both a jam and a party.

– I sang a song at the Cotton Club, which was fun because then you got a free drink, and I didn’t know that, says Emma.

The idol scored

After all, the big highlight of the trip so far has been the football match in Munich, where they got to see the idol Magdalena Eriksson play.

– We were at the Bayern Munich match and watched Magdalena Eriksson! And she scored too! It was very cold, but it was great fun, says Emma enthusiastically.

Tågluffen adds more flavor

Maybe there will be both more matches and more free drinks in the future, because Emma and grandpa Hasse have already started thinking about where they should travel next. But before that, Emma will take the microphone in Zurich.

– We’re going to a restaurant after this and then on to a jazz jam! laughs Emma.
