One of the most famous adventure stories of all time really well reissued

One of the most famous adventure stories of all time

It’s a story that’s been retold in Hollywood since the advent of moving images. In fact, really all imaginable versions. Also as a Barbie film and with Mickey Mouse and his friends. You would almost think that you couldn’t do anything exciting with this material anymore. And then an adaptation just returns back to the roots and still manages it.

Anyone who doesn’t think of the word “cloak and dagger”… Three Musketeers thinks, has probably slept through several generations of Hollywood films. But even those who know all the adaptations of Alexandre Dumas’ classic will have fun with the latest, exceptionally non-Hollywood edition, The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan. It’s available to stream on Sky from today.

Streaming tip: In The Three Musketeers – D’Artagnan a battle for honor, justice and the fate of France begins

Since childhood, Charles D’Artagnan (François Civil) has dreamed of serving his king as a musketeer. However, on the way to Paris and the headquarters of these brave fighters, he gets into some trouble. He witnesses a murder that almost costs him his life. D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers

These three men ultimately turn out to be none other than llegendary three musketeers Athos (Vincent Cassel), Porthos (Pio Marmaï) and Aramis (Romain Duris). But the four quickly become friends through a fight with common opponents. That’s a good thing, because Queen Anne (Vicky Krieps) will soon need their help.

The fate of an already divided France is at stake because Anne has stumbled into a plot orchestrated by enemies of the crown – the mysterious Milady de Winter (Eva Green), among others, is pulling the strings. And then, too Athos framed for murder The Musketeers must pull out all the stops to prevent an absolute catastrophe.

The adventure film is a simple but ingenious new edition that makes you want the sequel

It’s been a while since there was a truly watchable Musketeer production that wasn’t in American or British hands. But returning to their roots is more than good for the three (no, four). There is no over-the-top airship spectacle like in Paul WS Anderson’s The Three Musketeers, no cartoon versions.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that the adventure film doesn’t offer any show value. But the focus is now on clear, down-to-earth, well choreographed action and breathtaking but realistic battle sequences. It’s always clear what’s happening, and it looks damn good too. There are also elements such as detective work and D’Artagnan’s charmingly staged love story to loosen everything up a bit.

Eva Green as Milady in The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan

All actors are there obvious passion for their hometown epic, François Civil in particular impresses as a passionate youngster. The chemistry between the four musketeers is characterized by a hardness that was realistic for the time, but also by friendly warmth and tongue-in-cheek humor that quickly makes them grow on us. And Eva Green? Eva Green is, as always, simply brilliant.

So awesome that already a second part of the Musketeer saga appeared: The Three Musketeers: Milady, which continues the conflict opened in Part 1 and promises even more action, more adventure and political intrigue and simply more Musketeers.

Anyone who wants to embark on this adventure with The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan can now do so on Sky.
