Ebba Andersson’s big surprise after the sudden decision in the national ski team: “I didn’t expect that”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Ebba Andersson stood for a real super season.
But now she is surprised by the message from the Swedish national skiing team.
– I didn’t really expect that, she admits in “Nyhetsmorgon”.

Last season was Ebba Andersson’s very best in his career with several victories at the World Cup and above all the ski WC 2023 in Planica as the big highlight. Then the Swede took the last step towards the absolute top of the world and was crowned WC queen.

Ebba’s big hit

The 25-year-old won double WC gold in the skiathlon and the three-mile and took two more bronzes in the 10 km freestyle and the relay. It was the latter that would get a lot of attention due to internal disputes between the Swedish riders and the blue and yellow corral team, where the corral manager Petter Myhlback received an unexpectedly large leading role.

Myhlback has been in the news again in recent days when the sudden announcement came that he is leaving the national skiing team immediately. Despite one year left on the contract, he resigns and breaks the contract early.
– I felt at the beginning of the season that it was becoming challenging to be a good paddock manager at the same time as I have two children who are investing in becoming good skiers. My family and above all my children need me at home more and I want to be present in their development at the same time, confirmed Myhlback in a press release.

Andersson’s words

The stud manager is the father of the super talent Alvar Myhlback, 16 years old, who is on his way into the Swedish national ski team. On social media, Petter Myhlback admits that he made the decision already in January and that it has nothing to do with the dispute in the WC.
“I haven’t been fired! The reason for the termination is entirely for personal reasons. My family and especially my children need me at home more. The number of travel days as herd manager has been exhausting when you want to be present in the children’s development at the same time,” he writes on Instagram, see below.

The announcement that the head coach is leaving the national ski team immediately came as a big surprise to the national team skiers. When World Cup queen Ebba Andersson is a guest on TV4’s “News morning”, she opens up about her great surprise.
– As always, it is unexpected when it comes in the middle of the season, says Ebba in the TV program.
– I didn’t really expect it to come here and now, I thought it could take a few weeks and that he would then come to the conclusion that he had done his thing.

Andersson also says that this is not something they discussed within the national team.
– No, what we talked about was what happened away at the WC where there was a discussion about the herding. The way we moved on from that and then I got really good conditions for further on, says Ebba in Nyhetsmorgon.
