Doctors in Gästrikland lose their credentials – prescribed drugs classified as narcotics to addicts

The decision states that the doctor has written prescriptions that “show a pronounced lack of judgment, ignorance, indifference and a risk-taking that was very remarkable.”

The retired doctor was already banned from prescribing narcotics last spring after several patients were prescribed very high doses, which in some cases were also judged to be life-threatening. Since then, more cases have been added and from pharmacies there have also been reports of affected patients picking up prescriptions.

Some of the prescriptions have been written for a relative with substance abuse problems. The doctor has previously stated to SVT Gävleborg that it is a close relative, living with the doctor, who accessed the bank ID information to write prescriptions several times. The responsibility board considers that the doctor is regardless responsible for ensuring that no unauthorized persons abuse the right to prescribe.
