Destiny 2’s most toxic weapon is finally getting what players have been begging for for years

In Destiny 2, Bungie revealed some news for the loot shooter in its latest TWaB post. Among them there was an upcoming catalyst that many fans have wanted for years and that was for the “Dorn” weapon. We’ll show you everything you need to know about it.

Update: We updated this article on January 9, 2024 because Bungie made adjustments to catalyst values. Stats changed from +20 range and +10 stability to +15 range, +5 stability and +5 air effectiveness.

What is the thorn? In Destiny 1 and 2, there is an iconic weapon that everyone should have heard or seen and that is the exotic hand cannon “Thorn”. This instrument of death shoots poisonous thorns at its victims and slowly drains the life from its enemies. Players have already labeled the weapon as the ultimate shooting iron in Destiny 1, destroying many Guardians with just a few shots.

She also gained entry into Destiny 2, but not as powerful as back then. Players often wanted a catalyst because the weapon was missing that certain something to keep up with the new weapons. The fans of the shooter have waited for many years, but now it’s over – Bungie has announced a catalyst for Season 23 and it’s actually really good.

Players have been hoping for a catalyst for a long time – it’s almost here

What has Bungie announced? Bungie has invited the Dorn as a guest of honor in the latest TWaB. According to the developers, it was now time for one of the iconic weapons from the loot shooter to be given a catalyst and what candidate would be better suited than the Dorn itself.

This is intended to increase the strength of the weapon in PvP and also bring about a change in basic behavior so that it is more fun to use in PvE.

Picking up leftovers can overload the magazine by up to a maximum of 40 rounds.

This is what the catalyst can do after its update on January 9, 2024: The catalyst then gives Dorn +15 additional points in range, +5 in stability and +5 effectiveness in the air. Getting kills or picking up a Remnant grants additional range, handling, and mobility.

What does the community say about the catalyst? The players are happy about every nook and cranny of the loot shooter. On Reddit, players commented with the following statements:

  • GSAV_Crimson: “This is exactly what I wanted from the catalyst. It’s literally perfect.”
  • iconorcz: “I’ve mostly been gaming since Forsaken, it looks like nothing’s going to change. What a catalyst, nothing beats being bombarded with stats.”
  • Neat_On_The_Rocks: “OH YES. With ‘The Final Shape’ they’re going for 100% nostalgia. They are intentionally introducing an OG Thorn meta alongside The Final Shape. Honestly, I think it’s brilliant. This catalyst is everything the Dorn needed. […].”
  • But experts like Aztecross already know that Dorn will be meta in Season 23. So if you do your rounds in PvP from time to time, you should keep the Dorn in mind. It will be a strong option, especially if you want to put pressure on your opponents.

What do you think of the catalyst? Do you think the upcoming change is strong or were you hoping for more? Let us find out in the comments!
