The man who was released from the Sis home Bärby outside Uppsala on Sunday is still at large. The police are now investigating a connection with a shooting in southern Stockholm the same evening.

The man, who is in his 20s, was out on a supervised walk in the grounds of the Sis home when, at around 1pm on Sunday, he ran away from the staff and jumped into a waiting car with several people.

– The person and the car are still wanted. We cooperate with the border police and police in other regions, says police spokesperson Roland Komaromi.

There should not have been any threats or weapons, according to Hans Bouveng, director of Sis Bärby. He tells UNT that the man is a gang criminal and convicted of a serious crime. Escapes, he notes, are difficult to prevent.

– The inmate has a care plan and that includes being allowed to stay outdoors. As the legislation currently stands, inmates at Bärby are allowed to have mobile phones and iPads. That way they have contact with the outside world.

Expressen, in turn, states that the freedman is connected to a criminal network in Stockholm. However, that is not something Roland Komaromi wants to confirm.

– We have a pretty good picture of this individual. With the help of that history, we work to see if we can find him in the contexts where he has been found before.

Just before 8pm on Sunday, a man was found with serious gunshot wounds in the Stockholm suburb of Sätra. No person has been detained.

– It is a bit early to say, but we have a very good cooperation with our colleagues in Stockholm and it is clear that you have to check whether there is a connection between the shooting and the release or whether they are completely isolated events.
