Concern among Eskilstuna residents: “Hardly dare to go out in the evening”

Several fatal shootings in a short time. The residents of Eskilstuna talk about a threatening atmosphere and that they do not dare to go out in the evening. – You become insecure and afraid to get in the way of shots, says Anders Görlin, resident in Eskilstuna. Another person who finds it unpleasant in Eskilstuna in the evenings is Siv Engman. – I think it’s very worrying, in the evenings you hardly dare to go out. The only time my friend Ingrid and I go outside is this time in the middle of the day, she says. On Monday, a young man was shot to death on an open street in the Fröslunda district. – He was 25 years old, the last one was 18, I mean where does it end? Where have we ended up in Sweden? One wonders, are we in Chicago or? says Siv Engman, who lives in the area. “Perhaps you should move from here” Even Kristian Aboaitah, who lives near Fröslunda, says that the area has become much more unsafe in recent years. – You actually get scared, that it happens several times in the same month. I’m thinking that maybe you should move from here to another city. “More insecure here” Elsa Olander Ekbäck comes from Stockholm but studies in Eskilstuna. – In Stockholm there are many shootings but not at all in the same way as in Eskilstuna with the smaller area and number of inhabitants. I feel more insecure here than in Stockholm, she says, and continues: – I usually see policemen driving around, but obviously that hasn’t helped. Now there is a threatening atmosphere regardless of where you are in Eskilstuna. Hear more voices from Eskilstuna in the player above.
