Clashes in Sierra Leone: “no one thought it would happen now”

Clashes in Sierra Leone no one thought it would happen

Precarious calm in Sierra Leone after Sunday’s violence. Unknown attackers attacked a barracks and an ammunition depot in Freetown. They also released prisoners from several detention centers. Fighting broke out in the capital but the government declared that it had gained the upper hand. The army said the violence left around 20 dead, including 13 soldiers. The country has already experienced several coups in recent years, but this one comes in a surprising context.
