OIL AND NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION IN SYRIA
According to the report published by the Syrian Human Rights Network (SNHR) on September 19, 2019, 80% of Syria’s oil and natural gas production is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDG) within the YPG. Although the SDG generates the revenue of the oil produced, it does not have financial records. According to the report, the SDF maintains its dominance in Deir ez-Zor, Hasakah and Raqqa, in northeast Syria, where the country’s richest oil fields are located, while it controls 11 of the 20 oil wells there. It is stated that the production capacity here is more than the production areas controlled by the Assad regime.
