Chathams 3 Tenors kick off Saturdays at 7 series

Chatham’s 3 Tenors will initiate a local church’s concert series Sept. 10.

Andrew Derynck, Xander Bechard and Colin Bell, all natives of Chatham-Kent, will offer an evening of solos, duets and trios with a set ranging from The Beatles to opera at St. Andrew’s United Church.

The three are graduates of Chatham-Kent Secondary School, where they performed in school choirs and musicals including Phantom of the Opera, Wizard of Oz and Fiddler on the Roof. They have all won Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival awards.

Derynck, from Jeannette’s Creek, recently completed the Calgary Opera emergent artist program after receiving his music degree and opera diploma from Wilfrid Laurier University. He has performed in many productions including a recent appearance in La Boheme in Lunenburg, NS

Bechard is continuing his fifth-year music studies at Wilfrid Laurier University after completing the Bachelor of Music performance program there. He has participated in various Laurier stage productions, including an upcoming appearance with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. Xander is also a voice teacher and coach in various genres from classical to rock and metal.

Bell recently graduated with a Master’s degree in opera at the University of British Columbia. He has performed in various productions at UBC and in concert in Germany and Czech Republic with UBC program colleagues. He has participated in master classes for several well-known singers and also performed in various productions at Western University.

Using the church’s newly-acquired grand piano, Devon Hansen, director of music at St. Andrew’s, will accompany the 3 Tenors on stage.

“Although trained in opera, all three tenors love to entertain audiences by performing all types of music and sharing their love of music,” a news release from St. Andrew’s said.

The church suggests a donation of $15 to attend the event. All donations support the music program at St. Andrew’s and all are welcome.

The event will begin at 7 pm
