Chatham Kent budget process begins Wednesday opportunity for public input

Chatham-Kent’s 2023 municipal budget process begins Wednesday night when the draft budget is presented to council and municipal officials are looking at public input.

The draft budget will also be made available online to the public at www.chatham-kent.ca/localgovernment/budget/Pages/Our-Municipal-Budgets.aspx at the same time it is presented to council beginning at 6 pm

“This marks the beginning of a political review process that will include opportunities for public comment,” stated municipal officials in a media release.

Groups and organizations that wish to request funding must submit a written request by email to [email protected] before noon on Monday.

Groups or organizations wishing to provide comment on the municipal budget can submit a written deputation by email to [email protected] before noon on Wednesday.

Community consultations for the public to provide input are scheduled for Jan. 18 from noon to 1 pm and Jan. 19 from 7 pm to 8 pm via live feed on the Chatham-Kent’s Facebook page.

A brief summary of the draft budget will be presented by administration at the beginning of each community consultation session.

Those wishing to ask a question are encouraged to submit questions prior to the sessions via email to [email protected], municipal officials said.

Budget committee deliberation meetings are being held in-person in council chambers at the Civic Center on Jan. 25, 26 and 31 from 6 pm to 10 pm

Municipal officials said Feb. 1 and 2 have also been set aside if needed.

The municipality will also broadcast all budget meetings live on YourTV along with the meetings being live-streamed on the YourTV YouTube channel.

Written deputations up to three minutes in length are welcome each evening, municipal officials said.
