Richard Linklater is one of the best filmmakersthat Hollywood currently has to offer. However, he is not involved in the blockbuster sector. Instead, he is behind film gems like Boyhood and the Before trilogy. Last year he presented his latest work: A Killer Romance at the Venice Film Festival.

The romantic action comedy starring Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) and Adria Arjona (Andor) received very positive reviews from critics and was hailed as one of the festival’s overnight films. Now there is the first long trailer full of thrills and good humor inspired by true events (!) Story.

A Killer Romance is originally titled Hit Man and revolves around Gary Johnson (Glen Powell), a psychology professor. In addition to his routine work at the university, he pursues one thing unusual part-time job: For the police he takes on the role of a fictional professional killer and is hired to carry out murders.

However, Gary doesn’t kill anyone. As soon as he receives an order, he convicts the person who gave it. A Killer Romance already has an eventful history behind it. After premiering in Venice, the film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. There Netflix secured the distribution rights for $20 million – according to Deadline, the highest amount spent on a film there in 2023.

As it emerged earlier this year, the Netflix deal only covers certain markets. Germany is not one of them. Thanks to Leonine, A Killer Romance starts in this country on July 4, 2024 in the cinema. And if the reviews are to be believed, this is a film that should definitely be seen on the big screen with an audience.
